Why does the world need another success blog?
If you’re smart, committed, a hard worker who has read all the books but you just can’t seem to get ahead, Titan in Training is the blog for you. If you don’t understand why you’ve hit a ceiling but people who are less intelligent, less capable or less experienced than you are getting ahead then Titan in Training is the blog for you.
Titan in Training is a blog for the success strategies and tactics that most books don’t tell you. In this blog, we get into the weeds and put some meat on the bones of the advice we’ve all heard a thousand times and sounds great at the time but doesn’t really seem to work in real life. We also look at some of the more nuanced tactics that are a little grittier and subsequently don’t get a lot of airtime.
Next level success is in the margins. If you only do what everyone else is doing then you’re not differentiating yourself enough. You’re not giving the world the opportunity to see you and want you.
Titan in Training articulates what the superstar performers already seem to know. We look at the tips spruiked by titans of industry and turn them into usable strategies. We fill in the details that either weren’t exciting enough to make the cut or may have been strategically omitted. We tell you what everyone else isn’t telling you.
Say you love your neighbour’s chocolate cake. You want to be able to make it yourself so you ask for the recipe. The recipe may be a closely guarded secret and so the answer is no. The recipe belongs to your neighbour and they have no obligation to share. It’s not your desired outcome but at least you know where you stand. Now consider the scenario where your neighbour wants to maintain a good relationship with you but they don’t want to give up the secrets that differentiate their chocolate cake from all the others. They might give you another chocolate cake recipe altogether or they may give you most of the recipe but not all of it. Here you are thinking that you’re all set up to succeed but you don’t understand why it’s just not the same. Maybe your neighbour neglected to tell you about the nutmeg or that they actually use buttermilk not milk. Maybe they neglected to mention that the ingredients need to be at a certain temperature before combining. These are the margin details that makes their cake next level.
Success strategies and tactics frequently suffer from the simple but difficult paradox. Even though they are almost obvious in their simplicity, the execution is where people fall over. It’s a bit like losing weight. The strategy is simple: cut out the junk food and exercise more. The execution is difficult because junk food is delicious and a lot of people just don’t like exercising. You know what you need to do and now it’s up to you to do it. Although trying something a different way might be hard to start with, practice makes everything better. If you have been doing something a certain way your whole life it can be difficult to suddenly make changes, even if they are small. By first recognising what you need to do differently then you start to recognise the opportunities to do it differently. You may strike out at a reasonable rate but if you keep trying you will keep improving. After a while you’ll do it the new way more often than not and eventually it will be second nature. (This is the four stages of competence model that we will cover in a future post).
It doesn’t matter what you’re starting with or where you’re starting from, you can achieve outrageous success and Titan in Training will help you get there.
